Senior US Mountain Running Team Selection Criteria – 2017
The U.S. Mountain Running Championships will be at the Cranmore Mountain Race on June 3rd in North Conway, NH. . The championships will be the sole selection race for the U.S. Mountain Running Team where the top four men and top four women to finish will earn berths to the team (provided they are USATF members and eligible to represent USA in international competition). Men and women will both be competing on a 10 kilometer 2 loop course. To read complete details on race, read this press release at the ATRA site.
The U.S. Mountain Running Team will compete at the 2017 World Mountain Running Championships which will be held in Premana, Italy on July 30th. The race will be an up/down event in 2017.

Junior US Mountain Running Team Selection Criteria – 2017
Athletes ages 16-19, who are interested in the Junior Mountain Running Team, need not run a qualifying race. It is however encouraged that junior athletes train and/or race in a mountain running environment/race to help provide them with the necessary experience to excel in the sport. The junior men’s team includes a maximum of four runners with the top three scoring. The junior women’s team is comprised of a maximum of four runners with the top three scoring. Junior team members are not required to compete at the Qualifier races although it is encouraged to help provide them with mountain running experience.
Junior runners should fill out the application form below, including personal bests and noteworthy performances. Junior men should have a16:45 or better 5 km road or XC time and junior women should have a time of 19:30 or better. Equivalent times from alternate race distances will be considered. In addition juniors must supply a letter of recommendation from a parent/guardian or coach. All runners must be current USATF members and U.S. citizens.
Junior Age Requirement: Junior athletes must be between the ages of 16 and 19 on December 31, 2017 to be eligible to compete on the 2017 U.S. Junior Mountain Running Team.

2017 International Youth Mountain Running Cup – Team USA Selection
NOTE: This is a different team than the Junior Mountain Running Team mentioned above.
This is the 12th edition of the WMRA International Mountain Running Youth Cup. This year’s course is an up/down hill circuit. Estimated distance is between 4.5 and 5.5 kilometers.
Venue: Gagliano del Capo, Italy
Date: Saturday, June 24, 2017
Trip Duration: Typically travel from the USA departing Wednesday, June 21 to arrive on June 22. Course preview on June 22-23, race on June 24, depart on June 25.
For team consideration, the junior athlete:
- Must be a current USA Track & Field (USATF) member (for 2017)
- Must be at least 16 and not yet 18 in the year of competition.
- Must have posted a 16:45 or better (junior boys) and 19:30 or better (junior girls) in a 5km road or cross country event. (Equivalent times – from an alternate race distance that translates to the aforementioned time criteria – will be considered for distances other than 5km.)
- Must have experience running (in training and preferably racing) on courses similar to the event.
- Must be mature, motivated, with a positive attitude to proudly represent the United States and sponsors internationally, under the rules of USATF and the event governing bodies.
- A letter of recommendation from a coach, parent, or mentor-runner must accompany the athlete resume.
- The team will be comprised of up to (6) members, 3 junior girls and 3 junior boys

Team will be announced by April 15, 2017. This is an unfunded team although there is a small stipend from the WMRA for travel. Accommodations and meals, as well as transfers to/from the airport are covered by the local organizing committee. Uniforms are provided by USATF. (If an athlete makes the team but can’t make the trip due to injury or any other circumstance, the uniform must be returned to USATF).
