Mountain running is still an obscure sport in some circles. Sometimes it’s hard to describe exactly what a mountain race is like and how intense it can be. Tommy finished second this year at the Ascent, mirroring his second place finish at the Mt. Washington Road Race. His time this year at both races were personal bests, good signs as Tommy heads to Albania in a few weeks.

2011 US Mountain Team Members Max King, Joe Gray, Megan Lund-Lizotte, and Brandy Erholtz are all racing at the 31km Sierre Zinal race this Sunday in Switzerland. The 2011 race is part of the Skyrunner World Series, which next moves to the Pikes Peak Ascent in Colorado.
At the 2010 race, Joe Gray finished 10th overall, while on the women’s side, Megan Lund was the overall winner and Brandy Erholtz finished 4th overall.
Just 36 seconds off her winning time of 2010, Brandy Erholtz finished a strong fourth today at the SAAB Harakiri Berglauf in Mayrhofen, Austria. Erholtz finished in a time of 1:05:02.
Simon Gutierrez, back in Europe racing after his strong showing at the 2011 Mt. Washington Road race, finished 13th in a time of 56:28.

Rickey Gates of Woody Creek, CO, a multi-time member of the US Mountain Running Team, set a new course record yesterday at the Canadian Death Race, finishing in a time of 12h:18:15.

Multi-time team member Simon Gutierrez joins multi-time and 2011 team member Brandy Erholtz in Mayrhofen, Austria this Sunday to participate in the SAAB Harakiri Mountain Run, a 10.4km race with 1170 meters of climbing. With a race that was modified due to excessive snow on portions of the original course, 2011 US Mountain Team member Brandy Erholtz (Evergreen, CO) finished 3rd place overall. Erholtz finished in 2:11:47, 5:24 behind winner Mireia Miro of Spain who won in 2:06:23. 2nd place finisher was Oihana Kortazar, also from Spain, who finished in a time of 2:10:58.
