Former team members mentioned in this article are race winners Stevie Kremer and Joe Gray.  Also Gina Lucrezi, Melody Fairchild and Jared Scott.  Race director Danelle Ballengee was a member of the 1999 US Mountain Running Team.

Over 1500 runners participated in the Moab Trail Marathon, 1/2 Marathon and 5k held in conjunction with the USA 1/2 Marathon Trail Championships.  Near freezing temperatures greeted many runners who arrived before sunrise but a welcome sun and cloudless sky made for perfect running weather by the 9:00 AM start.

Joe Gray wins the men's race

The first wave contained over 50 USA Track & Field members competing for prize money and medals in the USA 1/2 Marathon Trail Championships.  The single loop course ran up deep slick rock canyons on rough terrain.  Hard rocky trails and sand made up much of the course that also included cold, deep stream crossings and steep pitches with safety ropes.

Stevie Kremer wins the women's race

Runners from over 15 states came to Moab to compete in this national championship but at the end of the day it was two Colorado athletes who took top honors.  Former World Long Distance Mountain Running Champion Stevie Kremer (Crested Butte, CO) won the women’s race in 1:38:08.  Top 10 World Mountain Running Championship finisher and multiple national trail champion Joe Gray (Colorado by way of Renton, WA) won the men’s race in a course record time of 1:23:23.
