Re: Drug Testing Policy

We are delighted that you will be participating in our USA Mountain Running Championships at Loon Mountain onJuly 6, 2014. The event is also our sole selection race for senior members of the US Mountain Running Team which will compete at the World Mountain Running Championships in Casette di Massa, Italy, on September 14, 2014.

Leading up to the championships (both USA and World), we wanted to remind you that we as individuals, and collectively as representatives of USATF, have a Zero Tolerance drug policy (http://www.usatf.org/About/Programs/ZeroTolerance.aspx). To that end, we want you all to know that leading up to the competition in Loon, and…should you make the US Mountain Running Team, leading up to the Worlds competition, there is the possibility of both out-of-competition testing and in-competition testing. In fact, during the past two World Championships, quite a few of our US team members have been in the testing pool, and a few of our mountain runners have been in the annual out-of-competition testing program.

If you have any questions about the list of banned drugs, please visit USADA’s website at www.usada.org. There are Therapeutic Use Exemptions (referred to as TUEs) for some medications on the banned list which athletes must take for an ongoing illness, or medical issues. Details are available here: http://www.usada.org/substances/tue/.

We look forward to seeing you next month and wish you well in your training and racing. Should you have any questions, please reach out to me, or our US Team Staff.
