2011 World Mountain Running Champion, Max King, of Bend, OR, added two more titles to his incredible year, with back to back wins at the USA Trail 50km Championships in Bend, Oregon on Saturday, followed by a win at the XTERRA National Championships on Sunday in Ogden, Utah. The races started exactly 24 hours apart, with Bend getting on a plane to Salt Lake City, UT at 2PM on Saturday.
At the XTERRA race, King bested a field of top national and international runners with a time of 1:17:59 on the 21km mountain course in Ogden, UT.More >
Andrew Benford, University of Richmond standout, and the only US Mountain Team member to race on both the Junior and Senior Mountain Running Teams, has been named to the USA squad who will race the Ekiden in Izumo, Japan. Only a few weeks since he bested the World at the 2011 World Mountain Running Championships, Max King will attempt to win two races this weekend, one in his hometown of Bend, Oregon and one in Ogden, Utah. The first is the USA 50km Trail Championships, which takes place at 8AM at Mt. Bachelor Ski Area right outside of Bend. After King finishes the race, he’ll hop on a plane to Salt Lake City and then head over to Ogden, Utah for the XTERRA Trail Championships which take place on Sunday, exactly 24 hours after the 50km race. Team Leader Richard Bolt has compiled the best of the best photos from the 2011 World Mountain Running Championships. This includes photos from the race, open and closing ceremonies as well as the team’s visit to the US Embassy in Tirana, Albania. TEAM LOOKS TO BUILD ON PAST PODIUM SUCCESS
Tirana, Albania – September 5: The U.S. Mountain Running Team heads to Tirana, Albania, this week to take on 32 countries at the 27th annual World Mountain Running Championships on Sunday, September 11. At the 26th World Mountain Running Championships, the men’s team won their second-ever team medal – a silver – while the women narrowly missed out on their fifth team medal.
