2012 USMRT Member Stevie Kremer wins XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run, sets new course record.

July 15, 2012 (Beaver Creek Resort – Avon, CO) – J. Marshall Thomson, 33, and Stevie Kremer, 28, won the XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run half-marathon course on a beautiful summer morning at Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, CO, today.

Both are from Crested Butte, Colo., and both are experienced – and successful – trail runners. US Women’s Mountain Team for 2012 Finalized at Loon Mountain

In possibly the most competitive field in US Women’s Mountain Running ever assembled, 3 new team members were named and one multi-time team member.

Morgan Arritola of Ketchum, Idaho, in her first mountain team qualifier, won the race in a time of 46:16, followed in second by Melody Fairchild of Denver, Colorado in a time of 47:06.  In third is returning team member Brandy Erholtz of Evergreen, Colorado, who finished in 48:06.  Finishing out the top 4 was Stevie Kremer of Crested Butte, CO in a time 48:21.

European Mountain Running Championships Results

Earlier today, the European Mountain Running Championships took place in Turkey.  In the team competition, Italy won for the men and Great Britain won the women’s title.  Monika Fürholz of Switzerland was first in the women’s race and Ahmet Arslan of Turkey won the men’s race.  Arslan has now won the last six European championships!

Loon Mountain Race – Athlete Profiles: Laura Haefeli, Corrine Malcolm, Jessica Snyder

With the course marked and athletes arriving today for the race, we finish up our profiles of some of the elite runners entered this year at Cranmore.  Good luck to all of the athletes on Sunday as we see who will be on the 2012 US Mountain Running Team.

Loon Mountain Race- Athlete Profiles: Maria Dalzot, Stevie Kremer, Chris Lundy

This trio of athletes includes a Junior Mountain Team Member (Dalzot), a multi-time Senior Team Member (Lundy) and a relative newcomber to the mountain running scene (Kremer).

Maria Dalzot (24, Morgantown, WV) is the defending NACAC Mountain Running Champions. She was a member of the 2007 Junior U.S. Mountain Running Team (USMRT) that took the silver medal at Worlds in Switzerland. Dalzot competed for the West Virginia University Cross Country team that won the Big East Championships in 2007 and placed top ten at NCAA Cross Country Nationals. European Mountain Running Championships – Saturday July 7th

While all eyes in the US will be on the Loon Mountain Race on Sunday to see who gets a spot on the 2012 US Women’s Mountain Running Team, across the pond in Europe, the focus will be on the European Mountain Running Championships.   With athletes from across Europe coming together to compete in Denizli, Turkey, the race promises to be a preview of potential things to come at the World Mountain Running Championships in Ponte di Legno, Italy on September 2nd.

Loon Mountain Race – Athlete Profiles: Michele Suszek, Kim Dobson & Myriah Blair

This trio of Colorado athletes have had a variety of successes in many disciplines, including road, trails and snowshoes.

Michele Suszek made her first USMRT in 2011 with an impressive 2nd place finish at the Cranmore Hill Climb. Although best known as a road runner before that, Michele has always had a love of trail running. Besides her strong showing at Cranmore and then great showing as well at the WMRC in Albania on a very tough course, Michele also qualified and ran in the Olympic Marathon Trials in 2012 and also won the USATF 50 Mile Trail Championships.
