The USA 50 Mile Trail Championships was hosted by Nueces and race directors Joe and Joyce Prusaitis. Their races always have a festive and social atmosphere, from the day before the race until the morning after the race. Friends gather from all over to discuss apprehensions or excitement of the coming challenge beforehand, then reassemble post-race to share their experiences of the day. This race day began with a light frost and temperatures in the mid-30s, but warmed throughout the day into the mid-60s. The course consists of three 16.67 mile loops over hilly and very rocky terrain. Joe is often More >

Story by Jason Bryant:
Saturday morning in Moab came crisp and cool. But with the sun rising over the desert landscape, the temperatures heat up quickly as did the racing at Moab Trail Marathon. The Moab Trail Marathon was serving as the USA Trail Marathon Championships which attracted a highly competitive field on both the men’s and women’s sides. Toeing the line were US mountain team members, previous male and female trail/mountain champions, fast roadies(2:14 marathon guy, 35 minute 10K gal), hardened mountain goats, and a Spartan Racing World Champion. Yes, you could say it was quite the mix of competitors. Question More >

The 9th NACAC Mountain Running Championships was hosted at Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver, Canada, on a rain-soaked morning. While the weather forecast called for clearing skies, temperatures were in the upper 50s at the start with humidity at 94% amid cloud-filled overcast skies. The conditions at the finish line some 1100 meters up the mountain, were slightly cooler with rain showers filling puddles of water around the finish area, while mist rolled off the trees.
The 11 kilometer course included a variety of terrain from significant ascents to a few steep and technical descents, rocky hillsides with grades up to 40%, and some single More >

My plan to send live tweets from the race was thwarted by a lack of cell service so we both took photos and documented the mile splits. Here is how the race unfolded at the front from press van #1.
